SCHOOL FACILITIES | New School Bus
And there came the school buses…
The school for a longtime did not have proper means of transport. Pupils and teacher used to walk or hire buses in order to attend outdoor activities i.e. Masses at Holy Ghost Cathedral and educational trips.
On one of these walking trips to the Museum (Fort Jesus) one concerned parent was shocked to see a neat line of pupils passing outside her office only to realize that her daughter was among the queue. Thus the quest for a school bus started then.
Together with other parents and the P.T.A. they pressed the school to acquire a school bus. It was an uphill task to convince the school administration then to purchase a bus due to the high running cost. However, with concerted efforts from parents, teachers, pupils and school management, the first bus KAR 562E was bought in 2004. This brought great relief to “the walking school” as it was known then.
“Along journey begins with a single step”. Today the school boasts of a fleet of four buses acquired during the reign of the current head teacher - Sr. Gertrude Mallya. Bravo!
The buses not only undertake educational trips in and out of this country but have also lessened the parents’ burden of dropping and picking their children to and from school. Plans are underway to acquire a fifth bus to cater for the rising demand.
