1.    About 70% of the earth is
   under water, but less than 3%
   of that water is fresh.

2.    The oceans represent a very
   important resource to all of us. 
   All sea water is a solution of
   salt and water. 
   There are many different salts
   dissolved in the oceans
   including a large amount of
   familiar table salt known to
   chemists as sodium chloride

3.    In some cultures salt was so
   valuable that it was used as
   money.  The early Chinese
   used cans made of salt. 
   In many areas around the
   Mediterranean salt cakes
   were used as money.
4.    Because there is salt in water,
   ships that are in sea water
   can be loaded more heavily
   than those in fresh water.
5.    The Pacific Ocean is the
   largest water body on earth
   covers 69.4 million sq miles.
