Erin is the name of my
African village
Laughter is what Erin
means in the Yoruba language.

In streams women and
children still collect water
in grounds and clay pots.
Which they balance on their
heads.

Electric light has shown in my
village with ruby-red palm
oil poured into a day vessel
we see at night.

My village of Eric is peaceful
like a hidden world.
It's ringed by radiant green
and surrounded by five streams.

Like a stream, the love for my
village flows. (Adapted)
